Remote monitoring of engine, Navionics, etc

Has anybody looked into remote management products, forward looking sonar, auto-pilot or speed (for skiers) control for the older boats (carb or pre OBD)? I saw Merc's Vessel View which looks great but sadly I'm OMC/Cobra which predates anything digital. Not certain this is something I need or even want but if there was a kit that provided some features I'd consider.

I had a forward looking sonar on my 1979 SR. It was a Datamarine unit. I really miss having that capability when transiting rivers and lakes that are unfamiliar to me. Might be mistaken, but modern electronics by Raymarine don't mention that feature anymore. Am I missing something?

It looks like the most effective units are well over 1k when all is said and done.

I’m thinking a good plotting/charting software could accomplish the same objective.

Thoughts?
