Hey everyone,

I have 3 engine doors/hatches on my deck. I am planning to up grade them with struts, new latches and new sound proofing.

I have noticed some "soft" spots when I walk on one of them.

I thought of taking the door off, flip it over and start applying fiberglass and resin. What do you all think?

How would you repair/reinforce the hatch?

I will post pictures later today.

Can you clean out the soft spots from the underside, then repair with 'glass/resin?

make sure the soft spots are not in the bracing, which is wood (i think). mine were, and i used "git rot" in thos spots, and repaired with epoxy. seemed to do the trick.

good luck. let us know what you come up with.

Just another idea:

Through bolt some aluminum "L" channel stock across the bottom side of the hatch. Use finishing washers on the top side for a neat appearance.
