Redistribution of someone else's wealth

I've heard comsmart say "if you make $xxx per year, you can afford to pay more." Who says and what right does anyone have to say that?

The current income tax code, which levies higher rates at higher income levels says that. This code was enacted by the government long ago. . .and while tweaked by both parties over time, it has not been changed in fundamental concept. Neither major party is proposing to change it now.

McCain has said he wants to take a hatchet to the budget. That is far more than cutting pork.

Also, McCain does support some wealth re-distributionist policies. And where he does, most conservatives like me disagree with him. However, he supports far less of it and far fewer entitlement expenditures. That is why he will get my vote when it comes to domestic policy.

I certainly have not heard much about McCain's deficit reduction plans. Not having heard much, I pretty much assumed he is not serious on this topic. (same applies for the Democrats). Afterall, George Bush is constantly addressing the budget deficit in his state of the Union messages. . .and look what happened on his watch.

Being curious, I browsed both campaign websites. Deficit reduction and balanced budgets are not mentioned on either campaign's front page. Digging deeper, . . .McCain has a full page that FAR more explicit on this topic and his proposals are far more serious regarding deficit reduction. Obama's rhetoric on the topic is frankly almost laughable.

Sarah didn't get a penny. The Republican Party purchased these clothing items for her and she only accepted them with the caveat that they would be donated to charity after the election.

I am just trying to fathom how you could spend that much on a wardrobe that you plan to use for 90 days. I mean. . .30 outfits at $1K a pop would also be excessive. . wouldn't it?

I wonder much value do you really think a charity will see from a bunch of used designer clothing? I am not being (overly) facetious. . .but how would a charity use the clothing? Hold an Auction? I wonder how much of the $150,000 they could actually realize?

This, to me, is in the exact same category as the Democratic candiate a few years back (I seem to think it was Edwards? I forget) that got a $400 haircut.

As Mike said. . .I would be interested to see how much Obama spends on his wardrobe.

Either way. . .it goes to show how totally out of touch politicians tend to be.

According to Fox News, Sarah did not go to these stores, a GOP representative actually went to them to purchase this wardrobe. When Sarah accepted the challenge to be John McCain's running mate, her existing wardrobe was suitable for public functions in an Alaska environment. This wardrobe was purchased for her to participate in the hundreds of functions that would be required of her.

It is immaterial how much money will be provided to charity in the auction; what is important is that Sarah does not gain any financial return from using these clothes.

Unless you have specifically donated money to the National Republican Party (GOP), you aren't out a penny for these expenses. It is one of the costs of running an election.

As far as John Edwards and his haircuts, that is money that he spent from his own personal wealth. No comparison here.

I am not thrilled with McCain/Palin, and definitely not thrilled with Obama/Biden. We are just left to select the better of the two. I will be voting for McCain/Palin for one reason, TAXES. My wife and I have worked our asses off to get where we are today. Both of us came up in very poor families. Both lived in mobile homes. Both of us chose to serve our country right out of high school. She retired from the USAF after 23 years and I gave 4 years to the USAF and 6 to the Army. We both put ourselves through college while holding full time jobs. We were given no more opportunities than any of the lazy a*& people who hang out on the street corners with their hands out. Hard work and making sound choices in life are completely our responsibility. So now with Obama, we are considered part of the top 5%, huh! I have no problem with helping those in true need and giving to charity of which we do year round. I have a tremendous problem with those able to work and choose the welfare route. I would rather give assistance to immigrants who pick vegetables in the field than to the inner city worthless a^$holes who continue to be allergic to work!!

You know, it would be nice if the morning show nice smile celebrity 'newspersons' and their staff would research facts on the candidates and their positions as well as some interested voters do... then they could pass these facts on to voters who watch their shows. But then their shows might be boring, and their ratings would drop, and they'd be off the air and out of a job, and some new blondie would be in their seat, giving out the same old non-news that the viewers want to see and hear.

Oh well....

Amen brother... I agree.

I'll post a pic of my mobile home I lived in if you do! It was a fine home... used to shoot possums that would come out of the heating vents in the winter.

Lot of possums where I grew up in the mountains of NC. We didn't have heat vents that worked. Just a wood stove!

Ask that idiot Sarah Pallin how she got the 're-distribution' of the Republican campaign money to turn her from poor white trash into rich white trash!

What is your definition of "White Trash" poor or rich. Based on what I've seen and heard about her she would not be classified as "White Trash"

"White trash is a pejorative term targeted at lower social class white people with poor prospects and/or low levels of education. To call someone white trash is to accuse a white person of being economically, educationally and/or culturally bankrupt."

How has she re-distributed anybody money?

With comments like yours who is the idiot?
"Idiot - person so mentally deficient as to be incapable of ordinary reasoning"

How long they going to be able to share wealth if they don't stimulate growth and create more wealth. Business and industry should be a top priority, why isn't it?

spreading the wealth: This would be a good start to see if it works!

Grew up in mobile homes myself too, always in a trailer park. I financed one for $3500 that I lived in on my own while I went to college too. Worked full time at night and went to school during the day to make ends meet and pay of the loan. Sold it for $5000 5 years later when I bought my first house...woo hoo.

My folks still live in a mobile home and live off of Social Security now. It's unfortunate as they did not plan well and my dad assumed he could work through his 70s. Unfortunately a permanent arm injury (he worked construction his whole life) a year ago is not letting him work.

As an adult, when I look back I honestly do not know how many parents did it. I never knew we were poor, just knew the other kids had nicer things then me. The good news: my parents taught me the value of hard work and how to take care of myself.

Like you, the Mrs and I were not given anything and have worked our tails off for what we have. It's a good feeling. I too am pissed that we may have to give some of our hard earned $$$ (or should I say more of) to folks who could do the same but chose not to.
