recycled Magma

First, I have to confess that I’m a packrat from waaaaay back. I like nothing better than to scrounge and make something out of nothing. Recently I came up with something I thought I’d share with my fellow tinkerers here on the forum. You’ll have to bear with me in the description, as I don’t own a digital camera to post pics.

I upgraded to a Force 10 (Kuuma) rectangular gas grill on the boat this summer, mounted just like Todd’s innovative swim platform setup. I still had the old Magma kettle, a little beat up but still useable. I also had acquired a similar round stainless charcoal model at one time that was gathering dust in the garage. I decided that it would be nice to be able to use one or the other of these at home when only cooking for one or two people. I scrounged the base assembly from an old office chair, complete with casters. I welded a piece of 1” tube vertically to the center post of the chair base, then welded a cross bar of the same material to form a tee shaped stand. I’m going to mount the two grills side by side on this rig and presto, now I have an easily portable pair of personal sized grills for the patio. My next stop will be the RV store to pick up an adapter to allow me to use the large refillable LP gas bottle in place of the disposable ones. Of course, I’ll probably get tired of having to disconnect it to move the unit, which will then mean I’ll be modifying the base to carry the bottle but hey, that’s the way it is with us McGyver wannabes………

As I said, just thought I’d share. I’m sure more than a few of you have old grills lying around, and excess enery to burn with your boat on the hard for the winter. Now that I think of it, this would be a dandy tailgating setup as well…..

Cheers,

Bill
