We're brand new to cruising and don't know where to start. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a company to insure a 2007 310DA? We're purchasing the boat next week and are lining up insurance and are look for recommendations. This is our first boat outside a couple SeaDoos (insured with GEICO) and don't know what to expect in terms of who works well with boats. Do we go with the big names or should we work with speciality marine insurance companies?

Thanks!

NBOA. They have special rates for Sea Ray Owners and they and they pay claims quite well.

New hampshire insurance company.

I pay 420 for the year. I have a 1000 ded. Im covered for 85,000. I also get a small discount for being a Capt. But its only a small percentage. Good luck!

I use Progressive and am happy I did. Had an electrical problem from a lightning storm and they have not questioned any of the repairs. Still working on getting the smoke smell out, but they have been great to work with.

NBOA! Here's a post of mine about a year ago. The agent was great. Easy to work with. I recommend him.

Re: I just saved a bunch of money on my boat insurance
Done! This is amazing. Before I could even log off CSR, I received a phone call from Clyde R. McCleary, NBOA Marine Services (800 248-3512), got a quote and made an easy decision to save $1,100! (based on apples to apples coverage). I'm saving a tad more by dropping the hull value more in line with today's market. Thank you Bill!

I tried NBOA and got a great rate - I think I am definitely taking this recommendation - thanks everyone.

I did try progressive, but their rate was about as high as my GEICO rate (really Ski-safe).

I've had Allstate, State Farm, BOAT/US and Allstate (again). Only one claim, with Allstate, on an Alpha One drive that "hit something." They replaced the drive and never sent a guy down to look.

I think the take home message is shop around b/c prices vary greatly. BOAT/US was about twice the cost of Allstate for this boat. I'd stick with at least an A rated company. Odds are all companies are going to pay on small claims without too much aggravation - a couple of thousand is pittance to them. The real test is when something catastrophic happens and it's very had to predict how they'd deal with that until it happens.
