We are starting to plan our first cruise with the Leah Belle. We will be leaving Dahlgren VA on the Potomac and heading south to the Bay on June 8th. I have fished off Pax NAS and have friends up there but the wife wants to try fishing around the Bay Bridge.

We are looking for suggestions on a combination of quiet marinas as well as one resort type marina for the celebration of our 25th anniversary. We were thinking about cruising down to VA beach with stops along the western shore of the bay.

I picked up the book Gary recommended “Cruising the Chesapeake a Gunk Holers Guide” and have been checking out Marinas.com.

Any personal recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

We spalshed today. Just got back. We are going to try and start on June 8th for five or six days. I had to do a lot of maintenance to the boat this year and I need to do a shake down. Depending on what I find will drive how far we go. The wife is starting a new job when we get back so we can't make the BIH cruise.

We are at Norview Marina on Broad Creek and like it very much. There is also on the east side of the bay Cape Charles, a wonderful marina, we are going there over the 4th of July.

Thanks Jack,

We had our shake down today and it was perfect. All systems go. What a joy to get out on the boat and not have to work on something.
I checked out Bay Creek on the web. It looks like a wonderful marina and golf club.

I liked the package prices and I will check with the wife. I was thinking I would be getting down that far by Tuesday or Wednesday. By then I am thinking I will need a bigger bed than the small berth on the 280 SS. We might slip the boat and checkout the condos. Not to interested in the real estate pitch though.

We are also thinking about checking out Onancock VA a little further North. Any body know anything about this spot?

Bay Creek's web site is better than the actual place....

Depending on how far you want to travel, the three spa/resort type places down in this neck of the woods are Tide's Inn on the Rappahanock, Bay Creek over in Cape Charles, and Kingsmill on the James on the James River. Kingsmill on the James is by far the best of all of them.

The towns I would hit are Urbanna, Yorktown, Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach, Smithfield, and if you have time Kingsmill on the James.

Onancock is a nice little town but you might want to look up where the name "Onan" came from and why the word "cock" has been appended to it.

Yeah there sure are some strange names for places. We stayed in Intercourse, Pa with my in-laws. How weird is that. Thanks for the resort recommendations we were looking at the Tides and I was thinking Rudee Inlet would be the furthest south we would travel. We have a time share down in VA beach on 4th street. I also noticed the Norfolk Harborfest is the week of 6th June. I suspect it’s a zoo down there then. I was looking at Salt Ponds resort in Hampton and Smithfield Station.

Our goals are to get in some fishing, stay at a few spots over night to break up the trip and maybe a stay at a resort during mid week.
