I was thinking about picking up a portable icemaker for overnight stays at the marina. I’m seeing models that can produce 25lbs / day but in all honesty I don’t know if this is enough or should I be looking at a bigger models
Without weighing it (I’m at work now) how many pounds does your home freezer ice tray hold? I’m figuring I need something that can recover this size in roughly a 24 hr period.

I've had this ice machine for a couple months now and have been satisfied. A dock neighbor has one and talked me into trying it. I think the manufacturer sells the same unit under different brand names because mine is identical but labeled Cold Front. It's a good size that I can leave in my dock locker or I've carried it on the boat while underway. It fits perfectly under my companionway steps.

PMC,
I have a Magic Chef version of the icemaker that StephenOvalle posted and it works great. It made ice within an hour and fits pretty well under the stairs of my 320. It can produce cubes in 3 different sizes and you just pour water into the ice making compartment. It will shut off when the water gets low.

we have ours right next to the electrical closet door on our 280DA. We just love ours.. have to run the gen or dock power but ice in about 45 mins.. got to love it !!!

we have a similar model in use for the last three years and it performs great. So much easier than buying frozen bags of ice cubes that are really just blocks.

I agree with 320Bob the magic chef works well it keeps up
with the two of us with drinks for the weekend ,just an fyi
make shure when you turn it off and leave it make shure you
you drain out water and dry it out and leave the lid cracked
or it will get skunky

Hi Stephen and others, I've got a question on the icemaker you have - does it keep the ice frozen? I looked at the mfrs website, and it mentioned something about the ice that melts is recirculated through the system and re-processed into replacement ice. Is that how yours works, or does it keep it frozen? I guess if it works that way, then you would probably just turn it on when you need ice, and then turn off once you have what you need...perhaps store the newly made ice in the cockpit/galley freezer or a good cooler. Please advise. Thanks.

Target usually has for around $130.00 let make the ice, and if you need more keep the previous-made ice in the freezer. I went to a restaurant supply and bought a small server metal pan I keep in the freezer just for this purpose. I can chip the ice lose if some is stuck without worrying about poking a hole in a plastic container, and if the power goes out and the ice melts, I just have a pan of water to dump.

Dump in about one gallon of water and turn it on. These systems in my opinion are the only way to go, but that's my opinion.

Thanks all, and thanks to you Pseudomind, Target looks like the lowest price in town. I'm going to run down there after work today and pick one up!!!

The holding compartment where the ice is stored stays cold but the entire compartment isn't frozen. The ice in my freezer seems to melt but it's a very slow process. It seems to stay cold enough to keep ice on hand while we're using it. I keep the reservoir full of water so it keeps producing ice as you're using the ice too. I have never had it run out but I've really only used it while serving drinks for a few people. If you have a large group I guess you might run low.
