I got a 1987 268DA the helm seat is fine, but the 2 behind the helm, and the pullout in the back suck. I was going to buy a seat that goes along the back, and up the port side. BUT,if I get that, it sets right on top of the cover for the engine area. Any ideas? Or is there a way to make the seats better to entertain people?

Had the same issues with my 268. The "jump seats" behind the helm were obviously designed before the word "ergonomic" was invented! A large cooler with a snap on cushion in the corner would work best for one decent seat. As for the rear bench… I was able to use the existing one by pulling the seat right out, then there are some locking buttons on the sliders that when pushed down will allow the seat to extend a bit further. Problem is, when you do that the back of the bench has little support. I made 2 wooden blocks with a notch in the top and a wider base that would slide under each metal slider under the bench and prop up the bench so it was level. The three fold down legs on the front and the wooden blocks at the back made this a stable platform that could still be folded up to access the engine hatch. Finally, to solve the issue of the lack of padding at the back of the bench, I laid two layers of basic PFD's on the area behind the vinyl cover by sliding them in from the stb side. Not the best solution in the world, but it allowed a useable bench seat.

Now the back cushion was something that was always uncomfortable, but I sold the boat before replacing it with a more dense one that would have been more comfortable.

Good luck with it!
