While out on our (new to us) 1999 Sea Ray Signature 210 Bowrider this past weekend, we were enjoying a pleasant cruise on one of the local lakes. When we returned to the marina, I discovered that the rear bench seat bolster had flown out of the boat. We back tracked our route several times but could not locate it. I've scoured the web looking for old replacement parts but am not having any luck. Does anybody have any suggestions? Will a local upholstery shop likely be able to recreate the entire piece, and if so what would be a reasonable price? Any suggestions on where to locate a used one would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dale

Wow, I can only imagine your faces when you turned around and saw that piece missing.

Yes, a shop can certainly make it. Finding a used one will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

However... if that flew off... the wood was probably rotten. If that wood was rotten, then there's a good chance that the sundeck is, as well (I think it was wood in '99). Check it out before the same thing happens - or someone goes crashing through.

Be prepared to spend over $1000 to have that piece custom made to look like the original. At least that's in the ballpark for my area. Check out their work too don't just go for the lowest price. It's not so easy to recreate a piece like that without the old one for a template.

Thanks for the responses. It was quite a shock and then a sinking (pun intended) feeling when I noticed it was missing! Does anybody know if Sea Ray would be able to furnish the dimensions of this particular piece so I at least have something to provide to the upholsterer? I'm also thinking I might be better off (meaning I may be able to save some money) if I just remove the other small piece that has the Sea Ray emblem on it and have a new one piece seat back made, but not necessarily to match. I'll update when I get a fix.

Also Dennis, thanks for the suggestion. I will check the sundeck before proceeding. I honestly think it is ok. I think that the previous owner took the piece out to have a tear repaired, and when he put it back in he didn't fasten it back down. My stereo installer told me boat stands for Bust Out Another Thousand, I guess he was right!

You could try contacting Sea Ray (contact info on their website). But if I had to guess, I would guess they would no longer have this information. But... to be honest, it probably won't make a difference to an upholsterer. They're going to need the boat to make it and they would take their own measurements. You certainly could make any changes you wanted to in order to keep the construction simpler and less expensive. The price is primarily about time - materials are the cheaper part of the equation.
