Re installing alph drive

Im helping a buddy figure out (trying) his lower unit problem.he bought a complete lowere leg.The old drive was placed in forward at helm before removing.Everthing lined up great.Problem being when in forward at helm drive isin reverse.When in reverse it's in forward.As mentioned old drive was in forward before removal.I turned shift shaft in forward and spun prop shaft counter clockwise for forward.The brass shift shoe and foot lined up.I don't see how the shift shoe could be 180 degree out. I don't think it can even spin around.Im thinking they sent a counter rotating drive.Ive tried everything I know and pulled unit 3 times and still can't get it right.

Just install the prop backwards and you should be good to go.

Is the drive new or rebuilt? Do you have the SN? If so run the SN and see if it is indeed a counter rotation drive.
