Raytheon Raydata Problems

1998 SR 450 sundancder with Raetheon Raydata with triple read out; Depth, Speed, and water temp. The unit turns on but has three bars for each of the three categories. Do I need new transponders? Are the transponders covered in zebra muscles? Can I replace the through hull transponders while the boat in in the water?

Before this the unite would lock up on what ever the read out was at the time. I would have to disconnect the 12V power to reset the unit.

It looks like the replacement is made by Raymarine. What do I need to do to switch to a new Raymarine unite. Can I use the same transponders if they are good.

All I am really looking for is the depth and water temp.

There are several possibilities on why this wont work, short list would be

1. Transducers fouled. You can pull the transducers while in the water and check. Here's a video of what to expect...

2. Electronics component failure (age related) The electronics are getting pretty long in the tooth, but send an email to Dan Gerhardt email --> c250@mydurango.net. He works on some old Raymarine electronics and may be able to fix whatever is wrong, but maybe not...there are limits and parts could be a problem.

3. Corroded/failed wiring. You would run a new wire fairly cheap, to eliminate this as a possibility.

This is exactly what I need to do. Checking or replacing the transducers looks a little scary. Do you know if I can just buy the I50 display PN E70060 only for now and plug back into my existing transducers?

If I need replace my transducers with the new ray marine transducers will they fit my existing through hulls?
