I have a 2005 300da and the raymarine unit it came with has worked great till the other day. When i turned it on it beeps on power up like it should but the screen is just a series of vertical colored lines across the entire unit. I can push buttons and hear them beep and work but i cant see the proper image just the lines. I tried to power down unit and disconnect power and cleaned all connections. No luck !

Please help i am hearing that i need to remove the unit from the boat and open it up and clean and reconnect the ribbon cable to the lcd screen and that should fix it. Anyone experience this???

What unit is it? I have this occurring on my C70. I called Raymarine and they said it is a "jockey board" going bad. You have to send it in to get the estimate to fix. The wierd (but makes me happy) thing is that, the more I use the unit (the longer it is on), the less frequently it happens. It is only usually during startup anymore that it happens. If I leave mine on, it usually comes back just fine.

The problem is defininetly the connection to the screen. With the vertical lines showing, press along the right side of the screen. Try pressing easy then more firmly. I had to press firmly to get my C70 display to come back on. Disassembling the unit and cleaning the ribbon cable connections will probably take care of it for good. But I'll only attempt that just before I'm ready to throw in the towel on this unit.

I had a similar situation at the beginning of this season, unreadable screen with vertical lines. Once I got home from the boat I hit in internet (including CSR) and found very little. I happen to find something on “fix ya” which said that it was a connection issue due to moisture. I figured I would give this a try before sending the unit in for repair or consider an upgrade.

They suggested pressing on the following - It mostly occurs when the plotter is exposed to moist during some days. The contact strip which connects the computer to the screen gets moist and does not conduct in an optimal way. The result is a non readable screen with stripes

The solution is simple: press on the edges of the screen and the contact is re-established.

I tried this and it worked but it took some time. In the first couple of minutes I could see an improvement but then would go bad again. After some time, the unit was working fine. I have not had a repeat of the issue but I take this as a sign an upgrade may be in the near future.

Good luck

thanks for the help you guys! I pressed on edge of screen and presto.... screen comes back on. So I popped the beauty ring of the unit and exposed a series of small screws that hold that on. I took a small screwdriver and snugged them all up. All the screws were approx one full turn to two full turns loose. Its been 4 weeks and not a single problem again

Next time - take the screws out and give them a drop of loctite or similar - and then screw them back in - all the vibrations can rattle them loose again. That will keep them in place for a few years. :)
