I was toying around with upgrading the electronics but I don't think time will permit this year. I've had the e series several years ago and like the units but yesterday I ran into this issue. Raymarine e80 with 4kw open array radar is saying "radar not spinning" when I try to use the radar. Unit was removed from arch for transport and I wired it yesterday and then 2x again today to make sure everything is done correctly. Well, no matter what I do I get the same error message. It warms it, and when I try to tx it does spin for about 15 seconds then stops. No painting on the display, just the rings. I can change range, change settings but nothing I've done has fixed this issue. I registered on the raymarine site but I am not active there yet.

Do you think buying a new radar antenna would solve the issue? There is one local to me for $400.

Thanks.

Tried that switch several times. Thing is, it does spin for 10-15 seconds then stops and the message appears on the display.

Try this - there are several connectors on the drive board one is from the drive motor/encoder that tells where the antenna is pointing. Possibly that connector got disconnected or the wires to it damaged. If the drive board was not sensing rotation and position it would send a message to the MFD. The system not painting is probably due to it doesn't know where to paint on the screen.
Or it can be the ships heading sensor that is required to indicate the antenna alignment.

I have the service manual that I can email to you if you desire.

Look at connectors CN3 and CN5 and double check the wire colors on CN8

Here is another thing from the school of hard knocks - There are two 12 volt positive and two 12 volt negative power supply wires in the harness Y adapter as well as connected at the scanner board (CN10). That scanner is power hungry and if all four are not connected and fused with a 40 amp fuse the motor may be starting then shutting down on a low voltage then sending the error.

Can you tell us more about how the unit was stored during transport? Sounds like TT is on something. Maybe some wires were damaged during transport or the connection to power supply.

Everything was wrapped in 3 moving blankets and secured with wrapping tape. Nothing that was wrapped and stored even moved during the transport. I've also saw in the manual that the amperage is critical. So maybe the boat just coming off of winter storage (although with battery charger plugged in) and sitting outside for 7 days drained the batteries just a bit.
