Is any one have a Garmin chart plotter with auto guidance? I am thinking of installing evo150 Raymarine autopilot. Does the Ramarine AP recognize Garmin auto guidance and follow it track? I will be wiring using nema 2000 adapter cable.

When I purchased our boat it had Garmin Chart plotters (7612xsv) and a Ray marine AP.

It worked, but you lost some functionality. Auto guidance is one of the items. Also did not follow routes without a prompt interface. Waypoint was fine.

This winter the Ray Marine head gave up the ghost. Was no longer supported, and the new RM required changing out the course computer.

Since I had to change the course computer also - I elected to go all Garmin. Replaced the course computer and the display head with Garmin.

Not familiar with the evo150 from RM. Would guess that it would work, but not necessarily all features.

Have had limited time with the new Garmin AP - just bringing the boat back from the yard (20 miles or so).

Seems to work great. IMO - something to be said on matching suppliers. If I had RM chart plotters, I would have gone with a RM AP.

Which Garmin AP did you choose? I have the exact issue and looking to install one.

Garmin Reactor 40 AP. Was able to use the existing drive unit, replaced course computer and head unit.

How you conect your drive unit if you had a Raymarine AP if you using Raymarine drive unit. The drive unit for Garmin requires nema 2000 Raymarine is not compatible. I have the same issue I have a type1 pump that is not comparable with Garmin. You have to change everything and $3900
I have the Raymarine type1 pump the rudder guide all I need to replace is the courses computers and display head. The Raymarine is only $1400 without the pump.

The drive unit I had with the RM Course Computer and display head worked fine with the Garmin Course Computer.

I have the same drive unit that the RM talked to.

Not saying it would be the same on your boat, just that was my experience.

I did not do the replacement, the company that I have worked with on electronics (and who installed the Garmin equipment on the boat for the previous owner) did the spec's and installation.

Staying with a RM head may be your least expensive option. I was just providing my experience.

Same as FootballFan, my Garmin install retained the RM drive. I didn't physically do the install either but was involved in the research. The connection from the helm units is just a power cable. The head and the computer do connect via NMEA 2000 and that may be where the confusion comes from. A salesman did want me to buy the Garmin pump claiming it is superior but everything seems to work fine. I believe the price was competitive with RM once the drive was out of the equation.
