raymarine autopilot accessories

I currently have a ST5000 autopilot on my boat. It is one of the older models. I was told that i could add a Gyro Plus 2 to my current system and it would improve the performance. A coulpe of questions concerning this. 1. Do you think there would be improvements in my autopilot performance? 2. Can i use my current raymarine compass with the gyro plus 2 or would i have to get a updated compass? 3. is pretty easy to hook up?
