What do you guys think of upgrading old Raytheon radar, gps and fish finder with dual a128s, open array and transducer for about $5200?

I recently helped a CSR colleague replace RL80C suite with a128, quantum dome, CP100 Sonar, Ray70 VHF and refurbed e7 (instead of second a128). Figured out after install we needed to get Raynet switch so they could all talk to one another. So doing that now. That's about a $500 upcharge conting the switch and Raymarine cables. He is running Navionics charts.

Pretty easy install. For me, once installed these different manufacturers products all seem equally good to me. So I think choice of manufacturer is a personal thing. I couldn't recommend one over the other. Although I did find I much prefer the hybrid controls of the e7 over the pure touch controls if the a128.

Interesting. What is a RayNet switch and why was it needed? Is it the different communication protocols?

It's just Ethernet with special Raymarine connectors on the end so you have to pay $100 for a cable rather than $15 for standard ethernet cables with rj45 connectors. The switch is just a powered junction box for everything to plug into. It supports five connections. So with an a128, the radar dome, the e7, the CP100 and the fusion radio plugging into it, we filled it up.

The a128 has two Raynet connectors on the back. The radar will use one. So you could direct connect the other connector to the other a128 and you would still have one spare left on the second a128 for the cp100 sonar. Then you wouldn't need the switch.

We needed it because the e7 only has one Raynet connector and we had a Fusion we wanted to connect.

I see, thank you.

Just a thought but furuno has some rebates right now and you can have all new. Rebates end 12/31.

Russ, I’ll agree with Josh plus you can use a $140 Ethernet switch instead of getting sucked into the Raymarine proprietary equipment for $500  and that’s before you buy cables.

Best price I can find is 6585 after rebate. 2895 on the display, 4390 for the base and antenna. And I have read that you can use existing transducer? And that power supply, psu012 - 575! Hope you don’t need that. And the rebates, is it 700 for the display and antenna and another 400 if you buy bbwx3 - at cost of 575?
