I have a 97 Sun Dancer and the chartplotter has been always reliable - until now. At start-up the opening wide view screen (in my case the Cal coast) appears in the left edge of the screen and there is no zoom, no cursor, no beeping buttons, but the map card passes as 'OK". Anyone have any experience before this equipment becomes a fishing weight? I have tried the video signal with no effet (Home and Power).

Re Boot?

Have you tried a "Hard Boot" for this unit?

Sometimes these units will get confused and need to have a their software restarted from scratch. Check your manual for instructions.

Chad and all: Raymarine describes my issue as "a full lock up" and states I will not be able to work it out and it may be time for a replacement. Do we agree? Has anyone had such a lock up?

Bill

Bill: I have a 97 Sundancer 40DA with the same unit which seems to work fine. However, I also have a Northstar 952XD that the previous owner put in. I have been told many times by local electronics guys as well as those that own older Sea Rays that once the old units beginning having problems there is no sense to try to repair them or anything. parts are almost all but extinct for those units. I think, as hard as it is to spend the money, it may be time to start thinking about replacing your old system with something relatively new that can also be serviced easily if there is a problem.

Good Luck,
Michael

Thanks for the responses and I am inclined to agree that it is time to upgrade (the admiral agress with some reuctance). I am impressed with Raymarine products and support. How does the forum feel with the C or E products and what is feedback for the "holes" in the dash.

I am still running a old Raytheon package on my boat, 601XX plotter with R20XX radar and a 650 AP. You may want to take a look at ebay. Units of this vintage are listed quite frequently.

my last boat had a rl80crc unit, along with a l760, run through hsb2. it worked great, and i had no complaints. a few of thoes rl80's are still around on ebay and other places for (relatively) cheap.

my current boat has an e120, and that display and system is terrific.

honestly, though, for the money several times more to get e series over the hsb2 stuff), that other stuff worked great.

Wiz,

Thanks, but the unit I need is the chart plotter not the radar display unit. It appears that I will have to update the electronics. The boat is nearly fully restored and is probably worth it.

Thanks for looking,

Bill

Bill, This is a combo radar/chartplotter..............I did the same thing and updated to a rl80crc which is color and what a difference! Wiz

The radar display will take the place of your chart plotter. There's no reason to deal with that small unit once you have a big display there. Plus, you can do radar overlay on the chart with the RL80CRC, which is a nice feature.

You have to make sure, though, that it has "RC" at the end. That stands for Raychart, and w/o it, you get no ability to read a chart card (actually, no slot to stick it in).
