We just returned for a month trip in Washington State. Put 50 hours on the boat. I normally put new impellers in the raw water pumps every second year. About 150 to 200 hours. Each day I look at the engines at the end of the day, there were no issues. At the end of the last day the port engine had a foot of water under it. It filled up in a 3 hour run at 1400RPM. The seal in the raw water pump failed. When the engine was off it was dripping when I ran the engine it was 1/8" stream. Never seen a pump fail like that. I carry a spare raw water pump so no problem. Pump had about 1000 hours on it.

More information
Took pump apart and bearings were no good. They did not have any play in them but they had rough spots. Probably salt water corrosion.
Impeller had no cracks in it, impeller housing had no wear marks or scratches and SS wear plate had scratches.
Now to order new pump. Think last one cost 375 US.

The area under each engine is a stand alone compartment with no drain. Assume it is so no leaking oil from the engines gets pumped out into the water. Do not know if this is standard on all boats but it seems to be a good idea. I put one of those oil pads under each engine and in this case all I had was water with an oil soaked pad in it. No oil went into the ocean.
