I wanted to take my dinghy out of the water today. It's usually on the back of the 480 DB on the platform but it's easier to do the maintenance on it in my shop and not on the back of the boat. So I had my son drive it over to the local public boat ramp and I met him there with my truck and the trailer. This is an 11 foot Zodiac Projet dinghy/RIB with an 83 HP jet drive.

I get to the ramp and there are like 8 boats there at 1:00 pm in the water and tied to the docks by the ramp. This is a dual ramp with docks lining each side. There are no trailers/trucks on the ramp.... I start to back down and my son pulls the boat up and some ASS CLOWN in an old crap 20 foot red boat (1970's vintage) with an evinrude outboard on the back the size of a VW (here in after referred to as "skanky boat") yells at my son to move out of the way so the "real boats" can use the ramp.... REAL boats. *REAL* boats. HUH? HOW RUDE! HE INSULTED MY DINGHY! Mr. Skank man and his skanky family and skanky boat insulted my dinghy. I got the boat on the trailer, pulled it out, strapped it down, and left... 5 minutes max. There were still no other trailers at the ramp but these people in the boats all looked like their best friend died or something... unbelievable.

I'm sure I'll get a warning to watch my language... oh well... off to throw the chicken on the grill.

Sounds like next time you'll need to escort you're dinghy to the ramp with your "REAL" boat..... Either that or pick the dinghy up with your trailer for the 480
Sorry for the bad time Gary. Reality is that you have a great boat The hit to your ego regarding your dinghy is laughable really if he knew. Your dinghy may be worth more than the Skanky boat. Oh well, you'll get over it.

Didnt you tell him your dingy was worth more than his boat, trailer and truck combined?

I too had quite an experience two weeks ago helping my friend with his boat. My tongue was bleeding after biting it so hard at the ramp. :smt021 I did behave.... like you...

Oh it was not an ego issue. I just can't stand arogant people especially when tied to ignorance. If this was my only boat, that attitude is BS. Let's see Mr. Skank Boat go wave hopping out of an inlet sometime... RIB's are "real boats" last time I checked.... ask the CG rescue guys.

Our local SeaTow even has a new one for thier work boat!

I didn't mean you'd take it as such, just that he may of intended it that way with his "real boat" comment. Hope I didn't offend you my friend

I never understood the rudeness displayed by some people at ramps.
I had a situation a long time ago where there was a double wide ramp. Along side of the ramp was a double length dock.
Just after I launched, another boat also launched. It was a man and his wife. For illustration purposes, I will refer to him as "Bozo".
As my wife and kids and I motored through the Cape Cod Canal, Bozo goes flying by us, even though there is a 10 MPH speed limit in the canal. :smt018
As luck would have it, when it was time to leave, Bozo happened to pull up to the dock just prior to us. We pulled up behind him, tied up, and waited a bit.
Rather than load his boat, Bozo stood on the dock, and proceeded to make and eat a sandwich.
Seeing this, I opted to load my boat on the trailer, making sure to leave the half of the ramp closest to him open so that he could load his boat.
Well, while loading our boat, between mouthfuls, Bozo had allot to say "under his breath" in a loud stage whisper so all could hear, about my "cutting in front of him". :smt101 :smt089
His wife, the poor saint that she must be, kept telling him to stop, but he wouldn't. :smt101
My blood began to boil, and thankfully, my wife was able to convince me that a confrontation was not the way to go.
To this day, when I think about it, I feel for that lady. :smt009

Gary.............If you would have been driving a beat up pickup, had a beer in your hand and a cigarette in your mouth he probably wouldn't have said anything at all. :smt043

Gary, I am really, really disappointed in you. How could you let some smucko besmerch your little dingly like that. For shame, you might even get drummed out of the dingy corps for such un-dingly like behavior. :smt100

A nice smack in the back of that bozo's head with a portable plastic paddle might have shown some immediate behavioral adjustment.

Gary-

Hot Sun + Cold Whiskey = " Bozo The Clown".
We too were insulted this last Sunday about our Dinghies. 5 dinghies strong we went into the Milwaukee river for lunch. Took a slip and started to enjoy our selves with good company and great food when " Bozo the Clown" shows up near our table. Between guzzles of his cocktail his voice getting louder he had to anounce to the crowd on the deck " Look at the little crappy boats those people have" He then went down the ramp to his 19' glory of faded gel coat and made another one for his guest and him self.
In mixed company we sat still and tried to let his coments pass.
The waitress erned her tip when she proudly anounce " They all have two boats and thier other one's wont fit in these slips"
Bozo shut up, The waitress earned our restpect., and we all had a great day!
