Radome or Array?

Its my understanding the the Raymarine Doppler Radar color codes the objects on the screen. If the object is approaching you, it it Red, If it is going away, its green. This would be awesome as you won't have to stare at the screen to determine if a boat is approaching. This is especially helpful when you are trolling in the Fog. Set a boundary alarm, and then when alarm goes off, you don't have to wait to see if you have an issue. I'll know come April as I have one on order to replace my Quantum.

I think it all comes down to how you boat. I've pleasure boated and fished on the Chesapeake for 40 years and never had radar. Some of the radars I've seen over the years I thought were just to complicated to tune and adjust just for cruising around in fair weather. My first chart plotter was a bigger game changer than radar for me. I putt back from the local bar at night to my slip. An occasional bay crossing in familiar water at night in fair weather. Never do fog or rain and don't fish anymore. If I were in a busy port with commercial traffic it would be different. The new low power doppler stuff is more than sufficient for this kind of situational awareness. That would be my choice.
