Radio Controlled Jet

Very nice!!!!

I like RC hobby, and I also am a Sea Ray freak, but I never have seen a very detailed Sea Ray rc model boat.

I got into RC planes for a couple of years and it was a blast. I never got into jets, just basic planes, but it gets expensive. It takes a while getting used to fly them, if you're not carefull, they can get away from you and you have no idea what direction they are flying. The funny thing was watching real pilots get into the hobby and they ended up being the worst at RC flying.

I used to be into RC flying - before I got into boats. Couldn't afford both so RC had to go. I built several jets such as the F16 below. It's about the same size as the one in the clip - about 6 feet long. That was before the minaturized jet turbines were readily available. Mine were powered by 2-cycle engines running (screaming) at upwards of 20,000 rpm turning a turbofan. They seemed very realistic in the air but nothing like today's turbine models.

I have crash stories for days ....

Check these out:

Click on the video! These are boats that fly and hover! They are a blast to fly. It's great to watch the expressions on peoples face when you take off and people don't expect it! Kind of like the expression you get watching the REAL Hydroplane go air born!

I too and an R/C junkie and I need a 12 step process. Or maybe I need a 12 step process for boating?

Another dyed-in-the-wool RC fanatic here. Over 30 years. However, I've cut way back in the last couple of years because I got into boating.

I'm an RC freak too. Got a garage full of them. Planes, boats, helicopter, cars, etc. In the past few years I have had very little time to use any of the bigger planes due to lugging them to the field, maintenance and all, so I bought one of the Great Planes Park Flyers called a Flatana. I have never had so much fun flying an rc plane. I can literally walk out my back door in the morning, peg the throttle and have the thing zipping around the yard. The power to weight ratio of these little planes is incredible. They can hover at about 1/4 throttle. You don't have to worry about crashing either. A complete airframe is like $40. Mine has been glued together so many times I think it is more CA than foam. Here is one in action.

What is all the equiptment you have for your park flyer? I've wanted to get back into this hobby on just that level, going full blown is too expensive and time consuming. Not to mention that the old guys that were members at my field were way to serious and hard core.

Jim,

I think I saw that video on the 3D forum of the e-flight message boards. A couple of years ago I went to the SEFF meet in Georgia, and came home with a Yak-54, brushless motor, lipo's etc. Unfortunately they are still laying around in the shop. I'll get back to them someday, maybe when the weather cools off here in south FL. Anyway, good flying.

I stand corrected, the airframe is only $19

Her eis a link to what I have: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJTK0&P=ML

I also have the brushless motor kit. As far as a radio it takes 3 micro servos and a micro receiver. Tower Hobbies sells Micro Park Flyer flight packs (servers and stuff) to work with whatever radio you have. I am using one of my computer radios with it. I think total invested aside from my radio was like $200.

Do you have to have a license from the AMA for the park flyer? I used to have a park flyer, I forgot the name, but I had it all put together but never flew it. I might take all the servos and radio and invest in the great planes park flyer. I used to fly a great planes 40 trainer.
