Has anyone installed radar on a 19.6 foot Sea Ray 190, if so what brand and where did you install it.

Thanks

Steve, I'm sitting here wondering where you take your boat that you need a radar. Your profile doesn't show where you live so there's no indication of where you do your boating.

I hope you understand that the radar sets that are NOT the newer broadband radar transmit a signal that can be hazardous to your health. It's essentially the same kind of radar energy that is used in a microwave to cook food. Now picture that same radar energy going through your brain. It could give a whole new definition to the term "hot head".

That being said, you would have to mount your radar antenna well above where anyone's head would be, so it would have to be mounted on an arch of some sort.

If you are cruising your boat with the radar on, the radar signal is going to be just blasting up into the sky and now showing any boat targets, it would only show mountains, tall buildings, etc. The solution to that is to have the antenna mounted with a wedge to make it point down.

These are just a few things to consider before you go out and purchase a radar set. I'd suggest you try to find a marine electronics dealer near you and have a lengthy talk with them.

Steve I'm in complete agreement with GFC. The radar dome would have to go on the highest point on your 19'. The angle of the beam would also be a issue.It would also have to be above anyone standing in or on the boat. Safety would be a big issue.

That said;
I love my Raymarine Quantum and the eS9 unit, but I bought mine so I could expand and update all of my electronics.

There's also the power issue. Radar motor uses quite a bit of amp hours when in operation. You'll need two batteries IMO to provide sufficient power to the electronics as well as be able to start the boat and power other DC needs all at the same time. Certainly some fishing boats in the 19-23' range have radar but I'm not sure I've ever seen a 19' searay with one on it. Just make sure you think through the whole upgrade and talk to someone that has knowledge/experience before buying the equipment.
