I am trying to install a Raymarine RD424HD dome (from BOE) on the radar arch on the 2008 Sundancer 38DA (now called the 390). I can't figure out how to route the radar cable from the arch down to the helm. Believe me I have tried to use a metal fish line, taken the arch stbd speaker out, remove the stbd lower storage panel, even remove the rear facing seats to get to the stbd area under the arch (no luck, no access).

Anyone out there ever try this on a late model 38DA? Any help is appreciated.

I'm in the process of installing Radar on our 280. Besides the need to enlarge the existing hole in the arch/gunwale interface, I have found that there is a molded in vertical stiffener on the outer hull that connects to the the inner cockpit gunwale. Sort of the same concept as a wall stud connecting the inner plaster wall to the outer wall on a building. This also seals the engine area from the living area. On the 280 it is located directly below the forward mounting point of the arch/end of the windshield. I would think there is a similar reinforcement (if not more) on the 380.

On the 280 you can get to this spot by either unscrewing the section of cockpit gunwale on the starboard side of the helm seat, or by getting a mini-me to crawl under the wet bar. I have no idea how to access on a 380.

The vent cover you are referring too on your 32 is capped with a upside down "L" shaped cover that is somehow attached and sealed to the hull (top) on the 38DA. It looks like it would allow access, but would be a mess to take off and redo, especially the sealant (thick 1/2" gap filled with sealant). The factory did a nice job with the sealant, don't think I could do as good...so I'm not going to try and take this off. Today I stopped by MarineMax and asked if they would route the cable for me, so I'll see how it's done, but it will cost me!! I have learned the guys that do these electronics installs earn their pay, the electronics is trivial but the cable routing is a royal PITA!!
