R & R OUTDRIVE?

I just received my haul out form from the marina today :smt089
one of the services is "R & R outdrive" 149.95 per drive plus materials

which means remove and replace which includes change lube, grease u joint.

my questions is should the drive be R & R every year. or every other year? what do you guys do?

The gear lube would be changed ever year for sure

I have always had mine removed every year on the boats I have owned. I have the engiine alignment checked and the drive splines lubed and if you have an older B3 drive the u-joints need to be lubed as well..............and the only way to do these things is to pull the drive.

Once a year, or every 50 hours in the case of a Bravo III. Merc has the drive coupler on a 50 Hour lubrication schedule. Learned this one the hard way with a coupler failure and subsequent engine R&R to replace it. I'm afraid this is what can happen when you purchase a used boat and don't have a good maintenance history on it!

Can they come down to Florida and do mine? That seems like a great deal even if it's over kill for $150 a year I'd have them do it every year. My 20hr service with MM was $165 just to change the oil.

I agree! Great price and wouldn't mind paying that as well for a R & R of the BIII! I just got bent $400 to change the lube on my 2 outdrives. :smt009

Oh to be in the midwest again....the one positive is we can boat year round out here!

I pay about $400 for mine in NJ. $150 sounds like very nice deal.
