I guess in will need to upgrade my Raymarine Radar chartplotter.
I have the original R 80 and was thinking of going with the C series of Raymarine.
If I do this upgrade can I keep my original Open ray antenna, motor and wiring or do I need to change some, keep some or change all.
Any input on upgrade would be greatly appreciated

Why go to C series? I would do E series, which opens a very different and larger room of options.

Nope, Most of the C and e series will not be able to use the old antenna. Thats the only bad thing. Are you going to the C wide or just the plain C.
I got a E120 after waiting what was to long. Now they don't make it any longer. Only have had it for 2 years, and lost half the value. If I were to do it again I would buy the newest unit I could. This stuff is like computers 2 years then outdated.

I gues you are all right. thech is running fast and whatever we get is obsolete as we get them. even if i go c or e series can I just change the antenna on mortor or all is obsolete.

I was told by several electronics technicians that my old R80 stuff would not work with the new stuff. That would be an expensive replacement of everything. I called Raymarine and initially got the same response. But I pushed harder and got to speak to a repair technician who told me that the old stuff would work but I had to put upgraded connectors on the various cables. Never folowed through but you may want to talk to Raymarine directly.

I think that was true with the 'old' e and c series stuff. I think the latest versions use an upgraded radar system. I know my 2010 C80 and Radome is not compatible with the wide series radar.

I replaced my old RLC80 with a new C120 Wide. No problems, connected with seatalk. Not sure of your location but i can send you info on my dealer.

I went from an RL80 to an E80 this season. There is a chart on the Raymarine website that tells which sn# are compatible. Pretty much any Pathfinder scanners made prior to sometime in '03 or '04 will not work. Needless to say, I've got a nice shiny new open array on my arch and an old one in the garage...
