I have my Quicksilver 5kw generator from my Baja boat out for repairs. The repairs are complete and ready to reinstall however, when the battery is disconnected from the generator while running the generator dies. Is this normal? With a Vehicle, when the battery is disconnected, It continues to run as long as the voltage regulator / alternator is good. Should the Generator do the same?? Is there a problem?? Just trying to find out before I re-install it into an already cramped engine compartment... Thanks Mate.. Boa

New F150 Fords are the same. I was told with the new electronic this is how things work.

In a vehicle or boat, it's never a good idea to run an alternator/generator without the battery load. The voltage will increase to a point where it could damage electronics. Just as you should avoid turning your battery switch to the off position when the engine is running. I would guess that the "new electronics" sense this and shut down.

The thing to remember is if the gen is running you will have your charger breaker turned on thus charging what the gen is taking to run. If you don't have a charger then you will have trouble. Check to see if your specific gen model has a charge circuit.
