Hi Everyone!!
I am the new owner of a 2005 180 Sport. I have a couple questions that I would appreciate answers to.
1.Is the trim switch and the trailer switch the same thing? It seems from the owners manual that it is different, but my throttle only has one switch. Im thinking that maybe it is the trim switch when the engine is running and then it is the trailer switch when the engine is off. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
2. When I bought the boat in the beginning of the week the previous owner lifted the sun deck to show me the engine compartment. Now that I have the boat home I can't figure out how to lift the cover. Is there a latch somewhere? I just can't seem to find it.
I really appreciate the time anyone spends to help me and I look forward to getting to know y'all better.
Thanks

I had a 2005 185 Sport. What I remember is that there was only one switch on the throttle for the trim, but the up button had two positions. In other words, you pressed it gently to trim up slightly and you pressed it hard to raise the sterndrive all the way up for when you were going to trailer the boat. Just try it a little and you will see what I'm talking about (assuming yours is the same as mine was).

Also, my 185 had two straps that served to hold the sun deck down. They were black nylon and had a snap that secured them in place. From what I remember they were maybe 6 inches in from the left and right edge of the deck. Just look in the gap between the cushion you sit on and the part of the deck that comes down and makes the back rest.

I don't know if this is making any sense to you, but I'm assuming the 180 interior was similar to my 185. It might help if you could post a pic or two.

Good luck!

Just to add a little bit more info........Mine's a few years newer but same idea on the trim switch. Down is down, but up has 2 positions. With the first, press the button lightly and you'll notice the leg moving up very slowly and will stop at a certain point. That's to fine tune your trim while underway. You can run the engine at any rpm in this mode.
Now press the button harder (second stage), and you'll notice the leg move up real fast. Since that puts the u-joints at a sharp angle, the manual says NOT to exceed 1000 rpm in that position.
Engine running does not effect how the switch works.

Great....thanks to both of you....got all my answers!!! I tried the trim/trailer switch and it works the way both of you stated. As far as lifting my sun deck, what was happening is it must have been getting caught on something, since you said there wasnt any latch, I knew I could just give it a good pull to lift, and there it was!!!! I think there is a little warpage going on in the seat back area....seems someone removed one of the pieces of wood that goes between the seat back and the transom of the boat....I'm not sure if it is just a carpeted piece of 2x4 or if there was additional plywood like the support on the left side. If anyone knows, I would love the answer....a photo would really help if possible. Thanks again!!!!!

there should be some kind of tethering/latch system for the sundeck/pad; if not when you trailer and air gets under the deck/pad and lifts it up you will lose the deck/pad and possibly hurt an unsuspecting motorist.
