8.1's
My wife and I purchased a 2007 Sundancer 40 with 8.1's recently and I have a few questions about the boat:

1. How do you get to the salon air conditioner filter? It looks like the intake is under the steps but how does that come off?
2. I have noticed, occassionally, the analogue gages (RPM, Oil Pres, H2O temp and fuel gage) for both engines will drop to 0 for a second or two and them pop back up showing their normal readings. We have smart craft on the boat. Does anyone know what causes this. It does not appear to be a loose connection because this has happened when we are still in the slip after we have turned on the engines.
Thanks for your responses

Assuming your salon AC location is similar to my 2004 390 set up, here goes. Take a flashlight and look at the base of the metal grid work holding the metal mesh filter in place. Where the two vertical supports connect to the metal frame (top & bottom) there are small slide/catches that release them. It's hard to explain unless you are looking at it up close. Maybe somebody else can explain it better but once you are looking right at it you should be able to figure it out. You can use a small screw driver to slide them to free up the grid. You can also remove the entire metal frame with a few screws that are holding it to the bulkhead. You can then take out the metal mesh filter and clean it. There is also a small plastic mesh screw filter mounted on the front of the AC unit that you can take out and clean too. This involves a little strecthing to get to it.

I can't help you with your second your problem. That sounds like an electrical gremlin that will one day stay with no readings.

Good luck!!!

I have a 2006 340 SDA and have the same gauge issue your boat has. They have done that from day one and Sea Ray has looked at this issue many times with no fix to date. I know of 3 boats in SE MI with the same issue and 1 is a 40 SDA. I wish I could be of more help but be rest assured your not alone with the gauge reset issue. It is unpredictable and does not affect the operation of the boat but it is annoying.

I have a 2007 38. I had the same issue with the gauges. I found out that the gauges are a dummy gauge and the information comes from the Smartcraft. After 1.5 years of trying to fix it Sea Ray upgraded my electronics to a Yachtview system . The system works great now
