I recently purchased a 1986 Seville by Sea Ray. But there is an electrical problem raising and lowering the prop. Right now I have use a wire and bypass something directly to the batter. I was told that there a solenoid type device that needs to be replaced.

Is this a typical problem or can somebody lend some advice. I want to get it fully functional before I get it on the water.

Thanks....

if you can raise and lower your drive by using a jumper wire i think it

would almost certainly be the switch at your throttle control or the solenoid. if when you hit the trim switch you hear a clicking type noise coming from the stern i believe the switch is good. a friend of mine recently replaced the trim solenoid on his 87 celebrity said the part was about $25 and getting to it was a little tough but not too bad

Trim Movement Problems

Phallucy,

Like Scott said, if you are jumping thngs from the battery, you are bypassing the trim switch at the helm and the solenoids near the trim pump. If you get 12 volts to the appropriate solenoid (there is normally one solenoid for up and one for down and they look like the old fashion Ford starter solenoids) when you activate the trim switch but the power is not making it to the pump, it is likely the solenoid(s) and not the trim switch at the helm. To make sure, activate the trim switch and jump the solenoids. If everything works change both solenoids. If you are not getting 12 volts to the solenoids it is likely in the wiring from the trim switch and often the trim switch itself.

However most of the time it is just the solenoids, which is inexpensive and easy to change yourself
