This may seem like a stupid question, but does anyone know the purpose of this orange pin on the trailer? Should it be removed for towing the boat then put back for backing the trailer? Thanks for any input, still new at all this:) Hopefully the pics go through.

It's the lockout pin used to stop the brakes from applying when you back-up, if left in the brakes won't work when driving forward, definitely remove it when driving forward or no brakes.

Newer setups use an electrical lock out connected to your reverse lights, frankly I prefer your option. You can also test that the trailer brakes work by removing the pin and backing up, the trailer brakes should apply, stop you.

Thanks 2016, I hope I haven’t put too much stress on my truck, we don’t trailer it much but I want to this summer.

Probably okay, just a little extra wear on the brake pads. You'll notice it stops quicker with the trailer brakes active. :)
