QSM11
I have been replacing the anodes in my QSM11 trans and fuel coolers with 2" long pencils, as the PO had been. I just noticed that a couple of the on-line suppliers of anodes sell a QSM11 package that have 1" long anodes in them. I can't seem to find the recommendation from Cummins specifically.

To show my ignorance on the subject, the anodes I remove are almost always impacted on the bottom inch and slight impact on the top end (fitting end). It seems the 1" would not see much action.

Does anyone know the downside of having a 2" long pencil anode in the Fuel and Trans coolers? Right or wrong, they've been working well.

Thank you

The short fat ones are correct for the engine cooling loop. The kit at BoatZincs is correct.
The later QSM engines eliminated one of the anodes in the piping around the engine cooler and aftercooler. There were two now only one. BoatZincs send the two.

Edit - sorry you did say the trans and fuel coolers. They are the long skinny anodes. One on the inlet side of each.

Edit again - boy am I messed up - The short ones are for the two coolers. The Long ones are for the engine raw water piping. Sheesh - sorry about that.

Thank you, ttmott...

So for clarity - for the fuel and trans cooler, the 1" long are appropriate rather than the 2" long that I've been using? Rather than putting them on both ends, only one end each cooler. They are all 1/2" diameter with 3/8" npt.
The mains are 2" long with 5/8" dia. with 1/2" npt.

So, I am still confused. The chart in this thread shows 2 in both the fuel and transmission coolers but then Brian said only 1 in each. I can only find one in my transmission cooler but the are 2 in the fuel cooler. On my starboard engine they were both brass but on the port engine the front one was painted white and did not have an anode. Any clarification would be much appreciated.

One in the gear cooler and one in the fuel cooler. Install in the upstream port so if they should break off they don't end up lodging somewhere you can't get to them - like the exhaust diffuser.....
