Over at Boatdiesel.com, there has always been the subject of the top coolant tank/heat exchanger bracket cracking. Yesterday I was poking around and sure enough, the bracket is cracked on both engines and completely seperated from the top of the big cast housing for the coolant resevior and the block. The guy over at boatdiesel refers to these brackets as "beer can brackets" and I can see why. They are thin metal and just are not up to the job they were put there to do. Unfortunatly, you have to take the whole cast coolant tank and heat exchanger off to get to them.

I have a diesel mechanic out today pulling them off and am having a better bracket fabricated for each side... Pain in the butt...

If you have QSM-11's, check those brackets because I hear they are failing on engines after about 100 hours. I don't have a warranty anymore so it's out of pocket for me...

(more ammo for Frank's Cummins claims)
