Put In Bay

By the time we get there on saturday I have zero expectation that there will be a mooring ball available. So, we have already reserved a slip for 2 nights.

Have fun. Wish I could make it over. I was at Middle Bass last weekend and the holiday weekend and PIB on the 5th and 6th. Stuck at the Marina this weekend replacing my circulator pump. :(

Ok, so what's the weather going to do this weekend? I keep getting different reports. Good chance of storms. Wondering if I should postpone. My kids will be bummed if they get rained out of CP.

I am waiting to see what the weekend forecast is Wednesday.....fingers are crossed!

Summer storms... Here one second gone the next. Go for it

I can live with that. Pop up storms won't bother me too much. Would like to do some cruising and sight seeing but plan on being slipped and on land quite abit too. Will take my rear camper enclosure rather than just the fastback just in case.

Hey everyone!

I'm fairly new to CSR, but I was reading this thread and saw some of you folks are docking at Middle Bass this coming weekend, as my wife & I are.
We would enjoy meeting some CSR members and having a few cold ones.
We'll be in & out over the weekend, and don't have a name on our boat yet, but we'll be the DA250 in the 52-foot slip (that's the only powered slip they had left to put us in!).

Cheers!

Randy

Myself, my wife and 4 others are going for 4 days starting tomorrow, x-mas in July is the main reason we go....it also just happens to be my B-day~ This is the 4th year we are going and love every minute of the wild parties .
"Good intentions" is our boats name, so if anyone is there....stop in and say hello.

Big boats are made to be driven, not tied to the dock.

If you're coming frm Huron... Watch for the fishing nets. Between there and the Sandusky breakwall.

I'm going to resurrect this old thread as I am planning a trip to Put-In-Bay this August with some buddies and I'm in need of advice and recommendations. There will be 5-7 of us on the voyage, all guys and we're looking for more of a party atmosphere as opposed to the strong family atmosphere. Now to be clear, we don't need to be crazy as we're all in our late 30s/early 40s and most of us are married. But we are looking to do some bar hopping and enjoying the nightlife. It sounds like the city docks don't take reservations so I assume arriving in the afternoon on a Friday is out of the question. It also sounds like Miller's is the only marina that takes reservations but that is a family marina so not sure if that would be the best fit for us. I'd also prefer a marina that doesn't get too beat up by the wind if possible. If we plan to spend a weekend there arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday morning, does anyone have any recommendations for a marina that would best suit us based on the agenda I've described?

There have been some changes since this thread was started, particularly in my post from 2010 that described the Put-In Bay Marina. That's now the Park Place Boat Club. That leaves Miller as the only marina on the island that accepts reservations from non-members.

If you can get into Miller, do it.

Otherwise your best best is to have at least someone leave earlier and secure a rafting spot on the public B Dock. A & C are municipal, but B is separately operated by the DiRivera Park foundation. They run a tighter operation than A&C, and they're more likely to accommodate requests such as waiting for the other boats in the group instead of rafting strangers. They are very active on Facebook, giving docking and weather updates sometimes several times per hour on peak wkds.

Well, the best party place and certainly most interesting spot are the city docks. We were there last year at the end of August and I don’t think they turned many if any away. Somehow they manage to fit ‘em in. We stay at middle bass on weekends and Park place during the week, but you’ll want to be in the action. Might be able to tie outside the east pier at park place if you can’t get in at the city docks, depends on how many of their members show up, or on the outside at the city docks, it’ll be choppy, but you’ll be off the boat until way after the waves calm down. Have fun.

Put-In-Bay Yacht Club! Private(don't have to be a member) and close to everything! Best party weekends in my opinion are Christmas in July(July 22nd - 24th, 2016) &/or Halloween weekend(October 21st - 23rd, 2016)!

Cheers

Thanks very much for the input. The departure plan is for some of us to leave Belle Maer Thursday afternoon, stop at Milliken downtown to spend the night, then the rest of our crew joins Friday morning and we leave for PIB. So having someone arrive earlier isn't an option. That means we'll need to make a reservation at Miller. I'm more comfortable with having a slip reserved especially in places I've never docked before...less stressful for me. I assume Miller's takes reservations well in advance? We're planning to go in early August so I'll plan to book the reservation as soon as they open this season.

They take them so far in advance that I wouldn't be surprised if they're fully booked for summer wkds by Memorial Day. You have to be aggressive.

It sounds like your plans are set, but I highly recommend skipping the Detroit stop. A Thursday arrival at the bay would give you a great shot of getting a good rafting spot on B Dock for the wkd., as well as a 3 day reservation being more attractive to the Miller dockmaster. If you're waiting for crew/passengers, they could drive to Port Clinton or Marblehead and take the Jet-Express or Miller Ferry to join you. The latter runs every 30 mins for $8, plus a cab or bus ride into town.

Park Place announced last week that they have open memberships. If everyone chipped in towards dues for one membership, the other boats could raft with the new member and you'd have a reason to make more trips. :)
