Pseudo because it was just the dinghy...
I picked up a Tohatsu 6hp outboard today to go on my new Baltik 9.5' air floor dinghy. The local dealer did all the prep work for me on the outboard, and gave me the same discount price you can find online. Not bad.
Weather was too nice - mid 70's, so despite the cold water and the prospect of falling in the drink, I went anyway.
Like most of us, I've had too much CSR surfing since October and not enough (any) actual boating.
The outboard needs 10 hours to break in properly, so I couldn't run it too hard, but did get the little sucker up on plane with about 75% throttle. Of course, I did so by placing the fuel tank and as much of my weight forward as possible.
Looks like I need to take Scott's suggestion and get a pair of dinghy trim tabs for the summer.
The 6hp is no rocket ship, but at 54 lbs, it is light enough to move around when necessary.
I think I'll abandon the Weaver tip up system, and instead follow many fellow CSR members' leads and build a similar setup to Dom's dinghy bracket. I've already got the Weaver quick set, so I just need to get the stainless bracket crafted and a pair of starboard arms to match.
It was fun to be on the water. The Niagara River is so clear this time of year (before there is any plant growth or propellers mixing things up) that I could easily see detail 12 feet down. Can't do that in the summer. The water is 18 inches below summer levels, too.
Golf in the morning, dinghy ride in the afternoon. Not bad for April 2nd...
