PSA: Recognizing a Heart Attack

Carry a few Aspirin 81mg in your pocket just in case. If things don't feel right, chew them and call 911. Worst case it will be a false alarm and you may get a bit of stomach irritation.

This saved my friend's live. Popped the "baby aspirin" (as he calls it) and drove himself to the hopsital. The doc confirmed he had 95%-ish blockage and would have died if not for the Aspirin.

I will be on the horn in the AM with cardiology since they did not get back to me today. If I don't get a satisfactory response I'll go to the cardiology department clutching at my chest and drop to the floor and roll around and see if that gets their attention. Thank You for the layman's explanation as to what the test results mean. I really expected a more urgent response from the hospital since the tech told me to call the doc right away and not do any exercise.
The in-laws are coming over to the ranch and the boat this weekend so I had some lawn care and boat washing to do, I guess I will take it down a notch or two.
Carpe Diem
So I got a call first thing in this morning from Cardiology and after a 20 minute consult with the Cardiologist, I am now scheduled for and angiogram likely followed by the installation of at least one stint for next Friday. I am in good health otherwise so the risk of expiring is low but it got me off the dime and made me finally call the trust attorney I have been meaning to call and get a living trust established to look after my wife's interest should something unforeseen occur. My brother and I own the land that our homes are on yet my wife is not on title so to avoid probate the trust will streamline any eventual resolution of the estate.

Good call on getting the dead stuff figured out …..everyone should do it for the family left……some are greedy bastards that don’t come out of their shell until after you die…. Based on two funerals I have seen

here is one example …..my cousin hasn’t talked to me in 20 years because grandma wanted me to have her cookie jar when she passed….. cousin literally cleaned the house out….the only thing left was the cookie jar and she needed it too….. I still smile everytime I walk past it :)

My guess is a single 2.5 or 3.0 x 18 Xience or Synergy stent, possibly Onyx if they are a Medtronic shop.

Good luck!!

Completely rewrote our will over the winter. Everything in a trust. Medical directives, burial directives, everything clearly outlined, even down to arrangements for pets we might own in the future. I'm not emotional when it comes to planning for the end, and it provides piece of mind that we are setting things up to be clear and easy for our kids. Worth it.

I have serious phobia about being put in the ground. I talking SERIOUS. Cremate and ashes on Bahama beach, ain’t going in a deep pit.
Don’t give me that you won’t know. How does anyone know that. Ain’t taking chances.

I really need do that. I just hate paying a lawyer for something that I can’t use til after I am dead.
It isn't for you. You are spending $3500 or whatever to keep the government away from your kids' assets, and to save them a big hassle after you die, rather than having them curse you and ask why Dad didn't have his sh*t together.

Aunt Jemima and a bong? That would make me chuckle too!

I didn't have a heart attack but I almost died putting off stuff.
I had a bicuspid aortic valve from birth. Actually fairly common. Well few years before heart doc said maybe want to start thinking about a replacement. I was 37 and could run 6 miles on the treadmill. Thought how could this be that bad? Sometimes the docs are not adamit enough. So I was looking for the shortness of breath sign they talked about. Well I know now that is way to far and not good.
So I guess 1.5 year later I was on a work trip with hugely long hours a day but it way only for like 8 days so I kept pushing. 2/3 the way though this grueling trip of mostly 18 to 20 hours days I got real sick. Nauseous and threw up clear fluid. The guy I was with covered for me and I ended up sleeping 12 hrs and felt better. Got though and went home. 2 weeks later I'm still not 100%. Slept on my first day off alot and wanted to sleep more on second day. I was at my parents house and told my mom I was going back to the boat to take a nap again. She said no stay here. Ok. Well I woke up short of breath and I was like oh no. Went to er and figured ill be out by evening. Ha! Not so. Went from there to icu for 4 days. Infection in heart and valve was shot. Had a temp spike of 106.7.
6 weeks of antibiotics in a pick line and then heart valve surgery. Surgeon said the valve was bad and I had a hole between the chamber wich he fixed from Infection. I was 39 and that 2015.
So as of now myself and my on-x heart valve are doing good. Sure we all could eat better and have a little less beverages but I can't complain. I'm not as strong as I was at 25 but I'm doing well.

Encouraging note the guy that runs the fuel dock by me had a heart valve done in 1983 I think he said. He's still kicking just fine.

Baltimore- Traffic Jam Jimmy dropped dead yesterday. Heart attack 65yo. It’s the big ones that sneak up on you. That heavy Dundalk accent was fake, he grew up in Pittsburgh.
And Mickey Gilley 86.

Considering how my acid reflux has been acting up along with my asthma, I've probably had 6 or 7 heart attacks since this thread started...:D
Ha, funny you mention that, my acid reflux feels like a heart attack sometimes, I have to pause and do some breathing to calm myself down sometimes.

Especially when it triggers an asthma attack, then I get short of breath and light headed. That combo sent me to the ER twice in the 2000's. I have since figured it out. But I could easily have a heart attack and overlook it.
