Props installed backwards!

It would never occur to me that I would have to mark or label props for a professional!

A few days ago, before I had even read this thread I was following an old Thompson being trailed down the highway. I noticed that both of his props were the same rotation. (common for the age) It's not subtle, you don't have to put it in gear or use a calculator or have an engineering degree. You just have to think a minute and give a rip!

To a trained mechanic, the removal of the props by me was not much more invasive then taking the damn cover off the boat. They should know how it goes back on! But if you're telling me the Sea Ray dealer mechanics don't already know which direction these drives run from the factory then god forbid they ever have to touch my boat again.

I agree 100000%. If a mechanic agrees to re-install props -- whether the owner removed them or the mechanic removed them -- they should know how to install them correctly. Any certified/credible/trusted mechanic can see the props were different and take a minute to figure it out. If they can't figure it out they shouldn't have said they could re-install them.

This one's not on Cincy.

If you think about it a little more...installing them wrong is flat out dangerous and a mechanic should triple-check their work anytime they do something that has safety consequences. Installing a boat cover incorrectly, not a big deal. Installing a fuel line and not checking your work, big deal. Verifying props installed correctly, big deal.

I agree with you Cincy. They shouldn't have guessed. If they were unsure or it wasn't part of the "work order" they could have simply handed the props back to you for you to install when you picked up the boat. Once the shop installed the props, they accepted the responsibility that they were done properly.

again there is not guessing... put the boat in gear, and the shaft only spins one way.... showing you which prop goes where. eliminates the "guessing" in 5 seconds.
