Hell.I own and LOVE my 245 dancer. Its an 83 model but loved like a 2009.I bought her with out an engine or drive.I installed a carburated 305 with an alpha one gen 2 outdrive. The ratio is 1.68.Im running a 15p stainless prop.......Now here goes for the problem....... The beast jumps out the water, planes right out, tachs out at 4700-4800.But she only runs 21mph skint back screaming. if I change the upper gears which direction do I go.I tried a 17p prop and got the same top speed but only turned 4200 rpms. Please give me some advice, what is the top speed of my dancer, what can I expect from her, what do I need to change.Any advice, help, pointers,or assistance would be highly appreciated.....

I could offer some advice but it will be a few weeks since we're on a one week furlough next week. But this advice that I can retrieve will not be on your model, plus it is not factory settings. I hope someone else out there on CSR can offer more assistance. I'll try to find out a 'touch-n-go' to get you started :/ Give me a few weeks to find out this info (if at all)

Are you absolutely certain about the 21 MPH? That sounds awfully low. I'm not sure that a 245 dancer will stay on a plane at 21 MPH:huh:

My only basis of comparison was a '86 Formula 242 SS w/260 Alpha I that weighed 4200 lbs. It would run 40~42 MPH with a 19" prop and 1.5 gears. A 260 Mercruiser has about 350 Ft. lbs of torque and a 305 4 bbl has about 300 ft lbs.

Check the Sea Ray archives for your weight, according to brochures for a '84 model you are at 4650 lbs. The 21 MPH may be a bogus reading. My guess is your rig shoud run 30~35 mph.

Good Luck.
