Hi guys..just bought a 1988 Searay Sundancer (26'8)..having trouble getting any speed out of it ..motor is revving/singing at about 4,000rpm to get to 22/23 mph..has a 7.4 litre 454 engine..that should be like a rocket..the previous owner had hand written in the owner's manuel that the prop for this boat is a 15 and 1/4 by 15 prop and that is what is on the boat...a buddy of mine with a similar boat said that I should put a 16 by 16 prop on and I will see a big difference in top speed/lower rpms/better gas useage...he also recommended going with a 4 fin prop compared to the standard three fin type..should changing from the current prop to the 16 by 16 solvvvvvvve my problems? ...and is it necessary to buy a 4 fin prop or shoule the 3 finner do the trick??..thanks for your help

Going from a 3-blade to a 4-blade is really just fine tunning. The blade difference, in and of itself, is not going to solve your problem.
