Prop pitch recommendations

I have a 1985 185 Monaco. It has the 3.8l, 4bbl OMC engine. The previous owner replaced the bottom end of the drive with a drive from the smaller engines. It has a 13 3/4 dia. 15 pitch prop now. I max out at about 5000 RPM which is too high. Any suggestions as to the pitch I should have and if I should use a 4 blade prop. I just replaced the longblock because of freeze damage and don't want to over rev the engine too often.

I'd try a 14.5x19P seein as its a V-6 if you had more power say a 350 I'd try a 21pitch start with a 19pitch and I bet you will be where you need to be

I would call a prop guy for advice. I did it this spring and they recommended something different for my boat. I went with the change and I'm very happy that I did.
