hello everyone! i have a 1976 srv 240 sundancer with a prop pitch problem. a friend wiped out the prop last year and bought a new one and i think it is the wrong one. since i put this prop on the boat i can only get up to 2500 rpm. does anyone know the proper pitch for this boat, some one told me 17 and i cant seem to verify this ANYWHERE!!! all help would be greatly appreciated.

have 72 weekender and currently have a 19 pitch on. Get about 30 mph at 4300 rpm. I am going to experiment with a 17 and 21 pitch also.

OK...Crystal Ball again.

An educated guess is that you have a 260/280 MerCruiser on a No. 1 drive with a 1.5:1 gear ratio. I'll bet lunch it came with a 17" or 19" prop and that you are trying to run a 21" or even a 23" pitch.

In any case...here is the link to the prop chart for '76 model Sea Rays right on the Sea Ray web site....

Your welcome...

Sprink56 where did you get that file for the 1976? I have a 1992 290 SeaRay and I think it has the wrong prop on it.

Thanks for the help

Winston

I have a single engine Sea Ray 290 with a 502 in her.. She has a 23 pitched SS prop, but for some reason the boat is only running at 3700 rmp at wide open throttle. I was thinking that the pitch of the prop might be high. Any ideas?

Marckos, unless you've got something like a 31" prop on there, that's not your problem.

Greg - don't bother with the 21" - you're only going to lose RPM and get further away from design spec for efficiency on your engine.

Sprink - where did you get that crystal ball? I think it might come in handy to have one of those!
