Boat Info
200 sundeck 2005
Engines
4.3 mercuriser
i have a 2005 searay 200 sundeck with 4.3 mercuriser 220 hp. i had a stainless 19p now tried a 17p. i am looking for more top speed the 19p i hit 40 mph on gps with 1/4 tank of gas river very smooth going with current it was tough to hit 40 and 4100 rpm. with the 17p top out at 38 at 4400 rpm i think hit the limiter it was making a beeping sound and knocking my rpm down. would a 21p be better i am new to this thanks

I would find out the proper RPM for your Sundeck. I believe that information is in your manual. You risk over-reving and could damage your motor and drive. If you go to large a pitch, your motor and drive may not have enough to use it's full potential - more noticeably when you're trying to get out of the hole.

I would stick with factory, just my opinion.

Your WOT rpm is 4,800 and you should be able to hit upper 40’s, maybe a pinch faster top end. The factory prop was 14 x 19 Vengenace, there’s no reason you shouldn’t stick with it.

There are other things besides prop size that affect your top speed. Your props have to be in great condition to start with. Make sure your hull is clean, the engine is running properly….when was the last tune up, and learning to trim the out drive so that you get the maximum speed.

i had a 19p on there in very good shape but it was hard to hit 40 mph i thought it might be prop with the 19p prop i was at 4100 rpm would not go any higher the 17p prop got me more rpm but lost 2 mph. the hull is painted my next thing is tune up i just got the boat has 250 hours on it i fell the boat should be little faster not sure if a 21p would help to hurt me more and i am trimming it up. the first day out with the boat full tank of gas and 4 of us on the boat i max out at 4000 rpm and 32 mph

I'd make sure your tachometer is right. The overspeed alarm sounds at 4950 RPM'S. It's impossible to overspeed and damage the MPI engine's because they limit the maximum rpm's within a safe range.

The speeds you posted seem slow so as woody suggested, make sure the hull is clean.
