We are a more progressive/diverse family and are interested in what folks recommend for a marina in the Annapolis/Deale/Southern Maryland area that has like-minded boaters (do those exist?). We are not vocally political or in-your-face with our beliefs, but at our marina last summer we felt out of place bc nearly all the boats were draped in flags and fanfare for our former president, blue lives matter, etc., and the clientele were very in-your-face about it, belligerent, etc. with their political statements. In addition, a large majority of the clients refused to wear masks in marina public areas, and management didn't seem to care and clearly are of the same mindset. It was uncomfortable for us, especially for our young children, when we got the side eye, smirks, and occasional comment. We certainly didn't feel comfortable at the social events or "raft ups" with other families. We hope to have a different experience socially this upcoming summer. Any recommendations? Again, we don't really care about people's beliefs (live and let live IMO), but we do care if people are hostile towards ours. Thanks.

We are in Chesapeake Harbour Marina and we love it. Laid back, quiet, very nice. Close to everything by boat. We have a 6 year old, a 9 year old, and a black lab. 2 pools (one on the bay and one heated) a nice beach, a restaurant and bar on site. The amenities are great and the community is mostly older people. PM if you decide to visit (or have any questions you want answered offline) as they have a referral that saves you $750 for an annual slip and I can put you directly in touch with the manager.

I think if you stayed in Annapolis you more likely to meet people who don’t get in your face, but go south of that and you will be in “we love the demented fat guy” country.

That's a tough one this time of year. Normally you could tour the area, and see what's going on for yourself .... but especially up here, no one is in the water until May. No flags or anything yet.

BTW .... am I the only one who goes and checks on the shrinkwrapped boat every week? There has to be at least 100 boats on blocks and I have yet to see another person.

I ain’t been boat since late December. But fortunately I have a lot of live aboard at marina that would call me. So I lucky I don’t have to go in in the cold & wind. Thursday gonna be 70 so I be taking afternoon off to bottom paint, can’t wait.

We had a lot of flags and parades for the fat guy on middle river this summer, didn’t care, took the zodiac out to watch. Saw some nice boats. Always a positive attitude.

I don’t know what it is about boats and the T2020 flags. Maybe liberals are all sail boaters? Lol. Just kidding. I would agree that the closer you are to Annapolis, the more people in line with your views you will find. It is, after all, the epicenter of this bluest of blue states. And the more rural marina you go to, the more likely you will find conservative slants. I don’t mind people flying flags, but there’s no room for hostility in any direction. I am curious how they singled you out for open hostility? Was it just because you were wearing a mask? We go lots of places mid Bay, and yes, some don’t wear masks much (more prevalent on the Eastern Shore). But most do. I do think around Annapolis would fit you well. Herrington South might be a good fit, too. Deale and Shady Side may be too shore-like. Visit marinas and see for yourself. But know that there will be T2020 flags anywhere boats are.

Hey don’t jump on me, but scoop has good points. I don’t fly flags, bumper stickers, etc, I hang in a bar that is huge KKK former White House resident lovers, and it’s all good cause I don’t get into that stuff with people. Maybe something you doing attracts the attention, just a thought. Fly under the radar.

And on that note, logging off, hoisting another beer at local KKK bar and waiting to launch!
