I used the belkin RCA/ipod cable to connect my ipod to my clarion. The problem is I have to turn the stereo all the way down and ipod all the way up to hear it, otherwise I can hear static on the background. Doing this does not allow for the stereo to play very loud. Is there a way to switch to auxillary rather than have it on radio?

I don't believe there is an 'auxiliary' input on the XMD1, or at least there isn't on ours. Are you sure you are not plugging into the input for the optional power amp? I had to use an FM transmitter to get the iPod to work on our XMD1. The gizmo I bought plugs into the radio antenna, so although it is FM, it is a wired connection.

Not sure what I am plugged into. There are 4 inputs on the back of the radio. I just plugged into that. Works fine on my home stereo but I have aux on it.

toddh...I've tried several options and none were acceptable. The rca's on the D1 are outputs. There is no input. Best advise is look around for an XMD3. It is a direct replacement. All plugs are the same and most importantly, the wired remotes will work on it. The D3 has aux inputs that you can use for your IPod. I posted a couple weeks ago looking for one for a friend that has a D1 and had a response from someone the next day. The one I got to replace mine and this one were both $150 including the wired remote. A good modulator is going to cost you $100 and still have crappy sound! Best of luck.

There are no aux inputs on the XMD1! There was a workaround posted on the internet using the connection for the multi disc CD player. It is easier to switch out the stereo. I think you can move all the way up to a CMD6 using the same connector on the back of the radio. The XMD3 will have the same faceplate as the XMD1 and have aux inputs.

There is a way to create an aux input on the XMD1, but I have yet to build it. You must pull the 13 pin DIN plug from the back of the head unit (which is connects the head unit to the CD Changer) and get another 13 pin DIN plug/wire to plug in it's place. The new plug/wire must then be wired properly to a switch and a female mini plug. Instructions are available on line, but basically the switch closes a circut which causes the head unit to go into AUX input mode. At that time, the signal being sent through the mini plug will play on the XMD1.

I suppose you could just "butcher" the original DIN plug wire going to the CD Changer, but I'd rather keep things original just in case I decide to reconnect the CD Changer!
