Bought gas on the Lake yesterday at the Blue Parrot, $4.90 a gallon. Ethanol free, 91 octane.

Seems expensive, but heck at least they had gas.
Beautiful day, I was out burning the off season gas down to exchange for fresh. It seems like there would have been more boats out yesterday but there wasn't. Actually it was nice cruising along at 26mph and no wake to have to adjust for. Can't wait for more days like it.

Same here! I got out Saturday morning and returned Sunday afternoon. Took on bout 35 gallons of 90 ethanol free at 4.99. We had a little traffic, but nothing we had to adjust for. It was a perfect couple of days for cruising.

What is w/ the High prices? I'll just ASSume my president w/ work w/ the powers that be and these prices will fall.

Yep! It's a farce!! When oil hit $120 a barrel everyone said "oh, once it gets below $100 the prices w I'll go back down. We will never see gasoline below $3 a gallon in our life time. This current administration has sealed the deal and oil company's tax rate is astronomical

Dang, you guys are really getting shafted.

We topped off on 2/28 with diesel and only paid $3.786. I normally fill up before the end of the year but when we tried that in December we ran the diesel tank out of fuel. Well, we drained it down to where the fuel pickup was sucking air. Feb 28 was the next chance we had to get the boat to the fuel dock.

I wanted to get it filled before the prices started up for the summer.

I filled up on Lake Wylie Saturday for 4.17/gal. Non-Ethanol 91 I believe.

I have been filling up my Boston Whaler on land with Non-Ethanol gas. QT is offering Non-Ethanol at some of their newest stations. It is usually 10% more than 87 E10. Heck the Whaler holds almost 90 gallons so it is an expensive fill up as well. Glad I can do that one on land.

Regional differences aside, my observation has been that Marine Diesel is normally cheaper since there is no State or Federal Highway tax included. Unfortunately for some crazy reason Marine gasoline has to include both taxes. In some states you can claim a refund of the state portion on your income tax. Not in SC though.

Oh for goodness sake, go to your local hardware sore and buy a bag of cement........and harden up!

My marina is $2 per litre, 3.8l = 1 US gallon so $7.60 per gallon.

When I was a mechanic in the army, I pit crewed for a Sargeant who raced an off road ute.....and as he said, I live to race, and if I had to pay for oxygen I would

Jason, some of that difference is the taxes difference between NC and SC. SC is waking up, and it is before the powers to be in Columbia, to raise the taxes to NC levels.......maybe this summer.?

Ian, I'm not sure Americans will pay 7.60 a gallon for gas. The upper limit seems to be 4.00 a gal when the anger starts. Here in america we are a people that care only about ourselves..............untill something forces us to band together. Then it's Katie bar the door, batten down the hatches, dig in and prepare for a fight. Americans united are a fearsom bunch. It was once said, "Be careful of waking the sleeping giant"! LOL

I am very aware of that, that why we only protect countries that we have a vested interest in!....and I do not say that to incite malice!, as we follow the US support the 'Policing' exercises they go into.....Australia was the first to put their had up against Iraq.

I also, like many here, hold grave fears that we are closing our oil refirinies (we are about to have NONE left) and rely on oil refineries out of Asia, as Apparantley they have an overproduction and it is cheaper......Fn great as long as we don't fall out.

Which also means we have oil reserves that we pump out and send it overseas for production, and the get held to random

That seems like a pretty dumb idea...you guys need to get up in arms and toss out the politicians who are making those decisions. I hate to say it, but it is apathy throughout the world in putting up with high energy prices that has led to the mess we are in today. IMHO of course.

The apathy through the world, is this stupid 'free trade' idea that we decided on 30 years ago.

It is screwing every democrised country in the world

By the end of next year, in Australia, we will have no Fuel production, No car manufacturers......and no employment! ( and guess what, I'm an employer, so I don't say that lightly)

We have a population of 23M spread over an enormous landmass and we have more choice of car models here than ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD and our politicians are proud of that.

As an employer, and a business person, some of it I can understand, we subsidised GM and FORD last year, $110M, they sent back to the US $109M, the result, US profit, but Australian branches still asking for money...

But gees, I honestly think, we need to backtrack a few years, not just Australia, but the US and Europe and protect our borders

Oh, and I should add, if a war erupts, of course in Utopia it won't, we will have 3 weeks of fuel reserves

Yeah, the difference seems to amount to 10-30 cents a gallon depending on how far in to NC or SC you go. I don't know what the actual tax difference is, I believe 17cents SC vs 32 cents NC but that may be wrong. As it relates to pump pricing, the gas around the border stays in the middle. The NC stations hold it down a bit to keep people from going over the border and the border stations crank it up a bit because they know once someone drives down there for gas they are not going to turn around if it is only 10 cents cheaper than 25 or 30.

I live only a couple miles from the border and I have never understood the obsession NC people have with driving 10-15 minutes out of the way, in many cases sitting in a line for another 10 minutes just to save a 2-4 dollars on a fill up (considering the average tank size is probably 16-18gal), most of which they probably burn coming down and going back. And I am from NC by the way.

I have heard the rumors about the SC gas tax possibly increasing. Not sure what will happen there.

Only time I get to take advantage of the lower SC gas is when I visit family down there. Like you say, no way would I drive to SC just to fill up, but some folks are that close on their budget I figure.

Ian, My opinion of gas pricing in America is, that the Government tested how much people will spend before they won't. Meaning, the price was raised untill people were ready to fight, or car pool, use mass transit, walk......

Then Big oil business coupled with big government, has kept pricing close to that level to extract all the profits they can. Gas pricing has edged up slowly, painfully slow so that we wouldn't feel the hurt untill it is to late to protest. So they think!!!!

My opinion is Big Oil needs gas pricing to stay above 100.00 a barrell in order to be able to afford extracting oil from the oil sands, and deep well fracking. Maybe wrong but it's what I think.

$4.90 per gallon here in Wrightsville Beach. With the beautiful weather I expected to see more boats out on the water too.... there were a few but it was still pretty quiet.... actually it was nice - no one on the water that I had to slow down or dodge... beautiful day and I had the ICW all to myself!

Does your price stay relatively stable? Or vary?

Ours is like a lottery. On the marina stays pretty stable, they charge a premium markup, which I can understand.

But as for filling the car up! Generally avoid weekends, normally Tuesday to Thursday are the best days. And then during the year we can vary up to 40-50c a litre..

My drive runs 98 octane, so I'm at the premium end, during the week will vary from $1.65 - $1.80. During the year $1.45 - $1.95

Ian, it seems to me pricing stay's relatively stable. Except for seasonal and vacation weekends, where prices are all over the place.
Gas companies here check each others pricing, to stay within a penny or two of each other within close proximity.

I do notice the price of gas is lower or higher depending on the median income of the area the station is located.
ie: In the area where I live, West side of Lake Norman, the prices seem to be 5 to 10 cents lower than say, Mooresville, or Cornelius, East side of Lake Norman.
