Do you prefer putting the shift cable bellows on the transom assembly first and then feeding the cable through or do you prefer feeding the cable through the bellows not yet installed and then feeding it all through the transom, gluing and clamping?
 
Feed the cable through first.

FYI, check the bellows clamp on the large end the next day after the adhesive is cured. Mine slipped slightly off the surface and needed to be reset.

Did you measure the length of the exposed cable before removing the original? Reuse that measurement for the spot to clamp the small end of the bellows.
