power trim

when i push the trim at idle it causes the engine to die or if cruising the rpms will drop. sounds like a bad connection but im not sure, any ideas? 89 sea ray,4.3l cobra outdrive

this is a guess only, but i am trying to relate boat mechanics with my experiences with auto mechanics...maybe your alternator is bad and when the engine is running you are running completely off of your battery....then when a significant drain on the battery is introduced such as operating the trim switch maybe that is enough additional draw on the battery so it can no longer provide enough power to run the engine....again, just a guess...
