Okay, I've RTFM and can only find information on changing the contrast of the CMD4A head unit. The remote is pretty dang bright at night and at this point I'm thinking I just may have to send it's hot lead through the unused accessory switch on the dash panel to turn its back light off completely.

Has anyone found a way to just dim the thing?

Thanks.

I haven't found a way, but I would like to figure it out. The admiral and I were cruising back from Aquapalooza a few weeks ago (the first time we had the SR out at night) and the backlight was GLARING. I put my hand over it for most of the ride until I just got fed up enough and turned it off. Someone, please :smt100!

I found that a plastic cap off of a jar of nuts we had on the boat fit perfectly over the remote. If there is a way to dim, I'd like to know cause that thing screws up your night vision real quick!

I have the CMRC1-SB remote. I installed it when I upgraded the audio system. The display dims just fine. I wired it to the helm's dimmer source.

Best regards,
Frank

There's an idea... I have the smartcraft tach. Does anyone know off the top of their head where I tap off of it to connect to my remote? If not, I'll try to figure it out. Looks like we may have a chance!

All I have is a toggle switch to turn on my running lights and that lights up the dash. There's probably a way to change the brightness on the smart tach, but haven't needed to do it yet.

My guess is that it's 12V (14V while running) feeding the backlight... maybe if I just drop the voltage down on the feed this will take care of it. If you can dim yours, it sounds like it doesn't have a threshold voltage to light up, but will actually vary.

Thanks!
