Can someone please tell me the procedure to replace the portlight outer trim ring and lens on a 2003 225WE? I unscrewed the inside trim ring. The outer trim and lens seem to be inserted from the outside and secured with ?adhesive?. I know these are the factory portlights. I didn't want to force it out. Do I need to just pop it out? Is it secured by adhesive?

Thanks
Jason

4200 if you are lucky.

By that do you mean to say that 4200 can be broken but sometimes another stronger adhesive was used?

I can't see any reason why Sea Ray would use permanent adhesive for something that would need to be replaced like a portlight lens.

Some owners have used 5200 which is never recommended but done by some. My 93 SR needed to have a port light replaced when it cracked in a big following sea. It was fairly easy to remove but required patience to avoid damaging the gel coat.

I'll tell you on the 280's thru 40's we have used either 960 bostik or 940 bostik underwater caulk (black on colored hulls, white on white). If they do get damaged on the line, we actually have to 'kick' the windows out with our feet or even a rubber hammer, which in turn DOES ruin the gel coat, and sits in limbo for days as this gel coat is corrected.

Not sure on a 225 though, since it was not at my facility.

Thanks for the advice guys! I guess I will have to take my time and chances with it.:wow:

Chelepop- For what it's worth, if you could pass this on to the powers that be, SR could save owners ALOT of time and trouble down the road by not using something that strong to attach a non-structurally dependant part of the boat. I think we can all agree that portlight lenses will all have to be replaced in time- especially the plastic ones and it sure does sound like it is going to be a pain.

Thanks again!
Jason

sbw1, when you did this, did you have to rip off the trim ring and slowly work off the lens with a small flat screwdriver or blade?
