I just noticed a flashing banner ad for Honda Generators in the Announcements & FAQ's section of the forum? Has anyone else noticed this? It appears that the official position regarding portable generators has changed on the ClubSeaRay.com website?

I guess they're OK now since this website is officially advertising for Honda and their portable generator products.

Any thoughts?

If you have searched for Honda generators in your browser, the ads that show up on this website in your browser are tied to that search.

No search, just clicked on the "Forum" link at the top of the page and there was an ad in the Announcements & FAQ's section.

Definitely placed there by the owners of the this site or their marketing team.

I'm thinking of getting the Blue Honda Marine storage cover.

I have noticed it before also...I thought it was a little ironic.....

Ah...you are talking about the BOE Ads! Yes, BOE sponsors this site, right? I think they sell campers now, too. The large banner ads that pop up for me are always related to my browsing history - like storage units at Home Depot.

It's just that so many on here claim it's the official position of this website to not use portable generators because of the associated dangers, but yet the site advertises for these Honda generators?

Confusing.

There was a BOE "group buy" awhile back....

BOE still sells them...I think.

The ad doesn't discern where you use the generator, just that they are on sale. You as the consumer are responsible to use it safely, or in a manner consistent with your philosophy of safety standards. (By the way, Honda does support usage by boaters, as witnessed by the marine blue cover).

I use one personally, but don't condone the masses use one in a marine capacity. My opinion is that it takes attention to detail, and a level of responsibility that some don't understand, nor subscribe to.

I am one of the strongest opponents to the use of portable generators on boats because there are just too many ways they can hurt you on a boat. However, I have a Honda generator I use for other things. They are very quiet, nearly bullet proof and extremely dependable. BOE is a Honda dealer and has done group buys for CSR members in the past to save interested members a lot of money.

I don't see any conflict of interest because nobody makes you use the generator on your boat…..it is a personal choice, how ever ill advised it may be.

If you handle the use of a portable generator on your boat with the proper care and precautions, it's perfectly safe to
use one on board. Also, see absolutely no issue with whatever pop up adds show up here. Most are informative of a good sale.

Do the generators come with Swim Platform or Radar Arch mounts?
NO MOUNT NECESSARY
6" drywall screws work if you bend over the end that sticks through ( also effective n bilge mounting )

No it is not "perfectly safe", rather it is at best a managed risk.

Does anyone make an install kit to mount one in the engine compartment?
I need some flexible exhaust hose to get rid of the fumes.

Just kidding....settle down......:wow:

It is the official position of some that frequent the site.

There is an actual 'how to install a Honda in your engine room' on this site. I was surprised at that time that no one was showing their outrage.:smt043

The owner of the Club Sea Ray site can state his position on this, but one of the great things about CSR is that about the only "official position" the site owner or management takes has to do with the rules of the forum. Other than that, the comments and discussion is just what we members bring to the site. With respect to the use of portable generators, you are free to believe the "yes, it is safe" crowd who seem to argue only one theory of risk, i.e. CO, or if you will read one of the entire threads on the subject you will see that there are other risks as well.

So, you choose, it is your family that is at risk, but I don't think clubsearay.com has taken a position on this, so it is unfair to criticize the site's owner for the products he sells or for a position he has not taken.

Advertising Honda generators on here does not have a thing to do with the "official position" of CSR. If a person has a need for a generator that appears to be a good buy at $50 off.

How that person chooses to use the generator is not up to CSR, it's up to the individual. They are not safe on a boat. No way, no how, no where.

It's like if they advertised beer or wine or liquor on here. They're not saying buy some then get drunk.

Has the ability to use common sense gone out the window on CSR?
