Port Lucaya trip Do-over

Hi Jack - I called about a month ago and need to follow up with them to make sure everything is good. I'll do that this afternoon and write back to let you know.

How did the sea trial go? did you send the sample off?

Nick and I just got off the phone with CAT. They think it is a fuel flow issue and told us to change out all filters. The primary is a 2 micron filter so if that gets clogged, no fuel.

I may have dirty tanks (just like my mind).

Randy
Randy,
Sounds good on the reservations. I'm sure I speak for all, we appreciate it.
Took the boat out yesterday all seemed fine till we started to come in. I ran it up to 1800 RPM's and was only going 10 knots. WTF here we go. Anyway I think the turbo stuck as it finally came up ok. Oil samples are in. I'll be headed that way sometime after Wednesday.
Not to stir the pot but a new thread on a 3116 fuel issue in the diesel section. Might want to give it a look. I still believe changing all filters and give it a go. I would ask CAT what the procedure for filling the primary is. Just grinding away on the starter can't be good for it. Keep me informed.

At least you can clean the tanks. The mind, that's a tough one...

Hope all is well Randy. See you in Lucaya

We did ask him and he said normally, you don't fill up the filter with fuel but in this case, he suggested it. He thought there may be air in the system. He said the 3 following things may have happened......

1 - without the weight of a half of a tank of fuel, it is difficult for the fuel pump to pull the fuel out of the tanks, pump it up to points above the engine and circulate it as required.
2 - when the tanks get 1/4 or lower, the fuel can slosh around, dislodge junk in the tank and suck it into the intake hose.
3 - if the spin-on CAT filter gets a little bit clogged with debris from #2 (it is a 2 micron filter), the whole system can get clogged.

I emailed him a picture of my engine and he spent a half hour with me going over suggestions and recommendations (he was a really nice guy).

WOULD YOU GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE. I HAVE STUFF TO DO IN MY ENGINE ROOM AND I NEED HELP.

Randy

Ok guys

The countdown is 2 weeks to go ....time is flying...it'll be time to go before we know it.

This trip is going to be great.

btw what Randy said Jack
WOULD YOU GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE

Getting all those last minute things done.

Ray

called PLM and there are a few reservations made but not all.

Tom - are you still going?
Tim - what about you?
Chad - no reservations yet

Randy

I just got done cooking the Sausage Gravy for our trip (It appears we are making breakfast for all one morning). I hope you guys are gonna be hungry. Marcias bringing so much food I'm not sure my boat will get up on plane. I gotta make sure I can still get enough beer on. If not I'll toss the food over when she's not looking.
Looks like the seas are starting to pick up a little. Still only 2 to 4's which isn't to bad. Hopefully it will calm back down by the 6th.
Jack

I'm in Colorado and keep running into more things I need to do. I'm 50/50 on Lucaya. I'll know by COB today.

On a seperate but still Bahama note, check out these tornado/water spout pictures by a friend of mine from Abaco. They were taken a couple of days ago on top of the lighthouse at Hopetown.

Hi all

We are finalizing our menu for dinner. We will be doing a seafood night. Chris has agreed to donate all the Dolphin he has been catching this summer, he will be preparing it blackened then topped with a shallot cream sauce, it is delicioso. In addition we will have some seafood newburg, white clam chowder, and shrimp cocktail. We will have a pasta salad and something else as a side.

I'm posting this for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we don't have the refrigeration/freezer space that many of you do so we would like to do this the first night (thursday). We all know how temperature critical seafood is. Secondly, I want to make sure everybody has something to eat so if anybody can't or won't eat this the way we are planning to prepare it, please give me feedback and other suggestions.

We made the booze run last night, HOLY CRAP!

Counting down....just 4 days left until Port Lucaya.....woohoo

Ray

I will not be able to join you. Bummer.

The weather forecast is shaping up to be very good.

Travel safely and have a great time. Tom

Hey Skippers:

I've really wanted to make this trip, but personal circumstances prevent me from making the crossing. I'm going t just take a a day trip or two to Lake Sylvia .

Sorry to be missing it.

Have one-or two for me too...and Ray, thanks so much for the offer for the ride over/back. I have 2 new projects at work that are due the 12th of August and I need to stay here to make sure they go smoothly. Will miss being with all of you !!!!

Have a great trip and I can't wait to see photos and hear all about it!!

Barry

Hey guys, I don't want to jinx you, but the weather is looking perfect for your trip. I am really going to miss going with you.

Have a great time. I hope we can hook up in September.

Ken

Ken - I second Randy's comment. It would be great to have you guys with us again, but I understand. Maybe next time.

I really hope you can make it sometime soon to SE FLA so we can get over to the Bahamas or down to the Keys together. Captain Jack has his monster of a boat over here for a while.

The guys we were with in Boca Chita, as you know, turned out to be some of the best guys (and families) ever. The more time we spend and the more we get to know each other, the better it gets (hope they feel the same way).

Captain Jack now has the cutest little sweaky bow mounted hailer that he'll be singing show tunes through (picture that) while Ray is wearing out the margarita machine. Ray promises to give it more punishment in Lucaya with a new dreamsicle mix while Randy continues to play Buffett and the Eagles on his outdoor video concert set-up.

Nick B and friends along with Ray's son Chris promise to catch some fish and a ton of lobster tail.

The beer will be flowing and all that's missing is our pal Ken and crew. Hope to see you soon.

- mike

p.s. Jack can't sing worth a s**t and I certainly can't picture a show tune coming out of his mouth but who knows what will happen after he downs a case or more!!

Thanks Mike,

We are back in Florida early September, late November, and the last three weeks of December.

I hope we can get a group together for one of those times. It should be quicker to get across if they keep the water levels up on the Okee.

You guys have a safe trip today. I look forward to the pictures.

Ken

Guys,
I'm sitting here worn out from another one of the most awesome trips I have ever been on. The seas were fantastic, Lucaya was the bomb, and the Flippy Floppy armada gang are the best bunch of people I have ever been around.
Do to a mechanical issue Randy had to ride over with us on our boat. What a great help they all were and he and his family are welcome any time.
There are not enough words to describe how much fun we all have together.

Mike we all feel the same way. Had I known you were so fond of show tunes on my Hailer I would have learned some.

Ray I had no idea you were a professional Blackjack player. Although you may need to teach me some of your techniques.

Randy thanks for helping me with all of my problems. I would have been lost without it.

Time to go to bed and dream about the next trip.
Jack
